Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expressed support for Ukraine last week. calling on Russia to roll back its military offensive. The move contradicts the position taken by the ayatollahs' regime as Tehran has been wary of criticizing the Feb. 24 invasion of Ukraine over the fact that Moscow is one of its strongest allies.

In a series of tweets, Ahmadinejad lauded the heroism of the Ukrainian people and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the "Satanic" war.
"The great nation of #Ukraine. President #Zelenskyy. Your honorable and almost unrivaled resistance uncovered the Satanic plots of enemies of mankind. Trust that the great nation of #Iran is standing by you, while admiring this heroic persistence," he tweeted.

He also warned Putin that if he fails to stop the war, he would have "no achievement" to show for it, only remorse.
Mr #Putin
Stop the Satanic war.

Soon after the fighting erupted, Ahmadinejad, who was president of the Islamic Republic between 2005 and 2013, weighed in on Ukraine's status in Europe and NATO, saying that the North Atlantic Treaty was denying Kyiv membership over the fact that the US, Russia, and China sought to reorder the global theater.
"Offering Ukraine membership in NATO was only to pave the way for the implementation of the tripartite agreement between the United States, Russia, and China. They are redistributing the world among them. They never grant Ukraine any membership in NATO," he tweeted.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has also criticized the war but has blamed the US for it.
"Ukraine is a victim of the US crisis-making policy because it was the United States that brought Ukraine to this point by interfering in Ukraine's internal affairs, organizing rallies and creating a velvet and colorful coup, the presence of American senators in opposition rallies, and the replacement of governments has brought this country to this point," he asserted in a March 1 televised address.
Tehran has had to walk a fine line on the Ukraine crisis over its close ties with Moscow. Still, it abstained from voting on a United Nations resolution that condemned the Russian invasion and called for a withdrawal.
Israel, which is also walking a fine line on the matter over its own ties with Russia and the need to preserve the deconfliction mechanism in Syria, where Russia is aiding Iran ally President Bashar Assad, voted in favor of the resolution.
