A 30-year-old runner was hospitalized in serious condition on Friday after collapsing during the Tel Aviv Marathon shortly before reaching the finish line.

Magen David Adom paramedics stationed along the running route performed CPR on the runner, including the use of a defibrillator.
After the runner's heart began beating again, he was taken to the nearby Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center. He was put on a ventilator and remained in serious condition.
The Tel Aviv Marathon began early Friday morning, with road closures expected to remain in place until 2 p.m.
