Lachmanovitch, 42, became the acting editor several weeks ago and has been with the paper since its founding in 2007. Over the years he has served in several roles as a senior editor, including as the editor of the political supplement and the paper's book review section.
Lachmanovitch is a graduate of Camera Obscura School of Art and in 2013, he was awarded the Bernstein Prize for Literary Criticism – the first time an Israel Hayom journalist won a journalism award. Thus, by appointing him, the paper will be led by familiar hands and march down the same ideological path.
"I thank Israel Hayom publisher Dr. Miriam Adelson and the entire Adelson family for their trust in me and for the opportunity to become the top editor of Israel's leading daily," Lachmanovitch said in a statement. "Israel Hayom will continue to serve as an uncompromising, patriotic agenda-setter in the Israeli media landscape," he continued.
Dr. Miriam Adelson issued the following statement following the announcement: "Omer Lachmanovitch has been part of Israel Hayom from its very first day, and over the past decade he has stood at the helm of the weekly political supplement, Israel Hashavua. I am happy that he will now become the most senior editor and I am convinced that he will expand and strengthen Israel Hayom's status as a proud Zionist paper and even take it to new places."
The CEO of the Israel Hayom Group, Amir Finkelstein, said, "Omer Lachmanovitch's appointment as chief editor is great news for Israel Hayom and its readers. Together with Omer, I am convinced that we will lead the entire group to new heights."
