According to the report, two drones launched from Iran were intercepted in Iraq on Tuesday raising concerns that they were intended to explode on Israeli soil.
The report came on the heels of Iranian claims that Israel is helping US forces target Houthi rebels in Yemen and other terrorist organizations affiliated with Iran in the Gulf.
Earlier Wednesday, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah boasted that the Shiite terrorist group – Iran's most powerful proxy in the Middle East – now has the ability to convert thousands of rockets into precision missiles and to produce drones.
"We have been producing drones in Lebanon for a long time, and whoever wants to buy them, submit an order," he said in a televised speech.
He said Hezbollah was able to transform standard rockets into precision missiles with the cooperation of "experts from the Islamic Republic of Iran". Such production had been spurred by arch-foe Israel's increased use of drone technology.
The statement follows reports that the bunker-bound Nasrallah recently made a secret visit to Tehran, where he met with officials with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to discuss a potential Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities. In all likelihood, the Iranians sought to assure – and perhaps plan – a Hezbollah retaliation against Israel if such a strike takes place.
The IDF intercepted several Hezbollah drones that had breached Israeli airspace in the past. Hezbollah says its increased anti-drone capabilities have led to a decline in Israeli drone overflights.
