"I've contracted COVID-19. I feel fine because I'm vaccinated. Go get vaccinated, put on a mask, we'll get through this together," Lapid tweeted.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, who sat next to Lapid at Monday's cabinet meeting – meaning he was exposed to a confirmed patient – has tested negative for the coronavirus.
The Knesset's press office issued a statement saying that parliament's chief of security Yuval Chen has been briefed on the matter and has issued the necessary testing and quarantine directives to those who may have come in contact with Lapid.
"The Knesset continues to work closely with the professional echelon at the Health Ministry to ensure the proper epidemiological review takes place," the statement said.
Shortly after news broke that Lapid was positive for COVID-19, Opposition Leader Benjamin Netanyahu tweeted, "Wishing Foreign Minister Yair Lapid a speedy recovery. Health comes first."
"Thank you, I appreciate it," Lapid responded.
