The wedding was hosted by the Lavie family, some of whose members the police define as leaders of organized crime. The Lavie family is in a dispute with another organized crime organization, and as per protocol, undercover detectives were at the event.
At 8:32 p.m., paramedics were alerted to the situation. Once first responders arrived, they provided first aid to five people who suffered minor injuries and one person who sustained moderate injuries. One of the people who had been lightly wounded was a four-year-old boy.
Police were investigating the cause of the explosion and police sappers were reviewing the scene.
