The number of Israelis killed in car crashes in 2021 stands at 361, making the passing year the deadliest on the roads since 2017, the Transportation Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Data presented by the ministry showed that of those killed, 33% were in cars, 23% on two-wheeled vehicles, 26% were pedestrians, 8% were on bicycles or electric scooters, and the other 10% were killed in trucks, buses, taxis, or other circumstances. According to the ministry, 78% of the fatalities were male.
There was a 43% rise in motorcycle victims compared to 2018-2020. Some 35% of motorcycle fatalities were killed in single-vehicle accidents.
The ministry reported that 56 new drivers were killed in 2021 – a 42% rise from the average noted between 2018 and 2020.
The deadliest month was April, with 47 people killed in car accidents. The deadliest day of the week, on average, was Friday and the deadliest hour was between 4 p.m and 5 p.m. the ministry's report said.
