Overall, Israel saw its population increase by some 1.7%, mostly due to natural growth. Some 184,000 babies were born in 2021, and 25,000 new םlim arrived in Israel. Another 9,000 lawfully immigrated but not through the official aliyah process. About 30% of the olim were from Russia, another 14.6% were from France, 13.9% arrived from the US, and 12.4% made aliyah from Ukraine.
The first 10 months of 2021 saw a spike of 28.8% in new olim compared with the equivalent period in 2020, with over 22,000 Jews making Israel their home. The number of people who died during the year is relatively high – about 51,000 – even higher than in 2020, the first year of the coronavirus pandemic.
