The police said that he was found in the cemetery in Petach Tikva, in central Israel, with fatal gunshot wounds that appeared to be self-inflicted.
In November, Haaretz reported that Walder, 52, was suspected of sexually abusing dozens of teenage girls. On Sunday, a Safed rabbinical court heard 22 testimonies from girls and young women alleging such abuse.
Walder was a key figure in ultra-Orthodox society. His book series, Kids Speak, sold over two million copies in ultra-Orthodox communities in Israel and worldwide.
