The Israel Police announced Thursday it had arrested 31-year-old Dekel Shashonkar on suspicion of sexually assaulting women he met online and intentionally spreading HIV.

A resident of Dimona, Shashonkar is accused of assaulting and raping women from a disadvantaged socioeconomic background he had met online. He allegedly lured victims by claiming he would pay them.
Commander Barak Mordechai ordered the establishment of a special team of various professionals who will work with victims to investigate the allegations against the suspect.
Following a police investigation, the Ashkelon Magistrates' Court allowed authorities to publish Shashonkar's identity so that more victims could come forward.
