Organizers of an event titled "Back to the square, and to hope" in honor of slain Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin have managed to raise only 20,572 shekels ($6,403) from 188 donors, only 8% of the sum required to produce the event, leading to a decision to cancel it.

On Tuesday, organizers issued an announcement explaining that to their regret, the main event commemorating the Rabin murder would not take place this year.
"We want to thank each and every one of you who enlisted to support the demonstration, but given the low interest from organizations and major donors, we are forced to cancel it. This year's event was supposed to be the last one to be held in Rabin Square for a number of years due to the fact that the square will soon be closed off for public access because of work on the light rail," the message said.
"After a year of change, political upheaval, and partnerships, the Rabin legacy is no longer just another slogan. Israeli society is in a process of healing that is still not complete, but today more than ever we need to believe that we can restore hope for reconciliation and unity," the organizers added.
