Dau is slated to play Egyptian-born Harrods owner billionaire Mohamed al-Fayed, the father of Diana's partner Dodi, who was killed alongside the princess of Wales in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
He is slated to make his appearance in the fifth season of the show, currently under production.
Dau, who also has a recurring role in the Israeli and Neflix hit Fauda, is a veteran of international productions, with roles in The Bureau and Tyrant, as well as films such as Oslo, to name a few.
"It's huge, it's the most wonderful gift an actor can dream of – it's the biggest role of my career," Dau told Israeli media on Friday.
The Crown producers have refused to say whether the fifth season will show the crash that killed Dodi al-Fayed and Diana in 1997.
Mohammed al-Fayed has long maintained that the crash was the result of a conspiracy.
