The Bar-Ilan University student database has been breached by a hacker known as Darkrypt, who has been threatening the institution for weeks to publish the student's personal information unless the ransom is paid.

It is unclear what amount Darkrypt demanded, but the amount continued to increase the longer the university stalled, and by the hacker published some of the students' information online, it reached several million dollars.
The Facebook group of university students and faculty were filled with angry messages with students complaining of being unable to log into their academic pages and continue ongoing assignments and hand in completed ones.
The administration informed students via e-mail of the cyberattack that had been carried out and said it was working to reduce the damage. The university described some of the information that had been leaked.
No special instructions were given to students whose information had been leaked. The university assured students it has taken a series of actions to strengthen the security of its servers.
