Asked how Afghans perceive the US conduct in the drawdown that culminated with the total collapse of the Afghan government on Sunday, he said that things should have been done differently, lamenting that he and other officials were left out of the process.
"I am a member of the cabinet and none of us were consulted, never, on the security issues. This was a very disappointing surprise and everybody was let down. It was not a brave thing to do," he said. "History's judgment is very cruel and history will judge all of us," he maintained.
According to i24NEWS, the mayor said the new rulers have not taken harsh measures towards civilians and surrendering government forces inside Kabul but cautioned that "it's too early to measure anything by international yardsticks, let alone talk about freedoms."
He noted that "Kabul airport is secured partly by the Taliban, partly by the international forces who are providing exit opportunities for their own staff and other international presence in the city."
He added that the city remained mostly quiet with no fighting taking place. "Although these are more anxious times we have to do our job," Daoud Sultanzoy told i24NEWS.
