Iran is the greatest danger to both global and regional stability, Defense Minister Benny Gantz said Tuesday during a tour of Israel's northern border, when he discussed recent tensions.

"We are calling on all the players and countries in the world to take action to stop Iran's aggression. It's time for joint actions," Gantz said.

The defense minister described the lawlessness currently engulfing Lebanon as "a tragedy," and said that while Israel was prepared to offer aid, it would "not allow the Lebanese tragedy to cross the border into Israel. We clearly see Hezbollah's attempts to exploit the situation at the expense of the safety and livelihood of the citizens of Lebanon themselves – all at Iran's behest."

"Just as we saw in the maritime attack that claimed the lives of two foreign nationals, Iran is the greatest threat to world and regional peace. Israel will not stand idly by while Iran advances its nuclear program. We call on the international community to take action and end Iranian aggression," he said.

"Nevertheless, we will continue to protect ourselves against any attempt to threaten us or move advanced weaponry to their [Iran's] satellites on our borders," Gantz continued.

"Anyone who has gotten used to 'equations' should understand that what has been is not necessarily what will be, and calculate carefully. We will carry out our actions and responses when and where we decide to," he said.
