Israel currently has 19,436 active cases of coronavirus. There are currently 212 people in serious condition, 42 of whom are on ventilators.
Although 851,285 people have recovered from the virus, 6,477 have died.
Over 28,000 Israelis received a third dose of the coronavirus vaccine by Sunday night, healthcare providers in the country reported. The government approved the booster shot for those aged 60 and over on Thursday.
Following high demand for the additional dose, Defense Minister Benny Gantz has agreed to task the Israel Defense Forces with assisting the healthcare providers with the vaccination campaign.
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, meanwhile, has called for healthcare providers to ramp up the pace of vaccination.
"The daily rate needs to be five times what it is now. Israeli citizens must go and get vaccinated. The vaccine quite simply works and saves lives. Our goal is to vaccinate everyone by the end of the month. It's ambitious but possible," the premier said.
