Mordechai Hassin had not been vaccinated against the virus, and had no pre-existing medical conditions.
After contracting the virus, Hassin developed serious respiratory symptoms, which led to his hospitalization. His condition declined rapidly, and medical staff put him on a ventilator and an ECMO machine.
Professor Moti Klein, head of the ICU at Soroka, said, "The fact that he was young and did not suffer from any pre-existing conditions did not help him fight the serious illness. This sad story only emphasizes the importance of vaccination."
