The Bay Port is slated to be inaugurated in a special event by the Israel Ports Company, together with the SIPG international operator.
The new Bay Port is one of the largest infrastructure projects Israel has seen, with over 5 billion shekels ($1.5 billion) invested thus far. Enormous container ships as long as 400 meters (1,300 feet) that carry 18,000 containers or more will be able to anchor there.
The new port's docks are extra-long, measuring 800 meters (over 2,600 feet).
The Israel Ports Company said, "Apart from the immense contribution to the entire economy and to promoting competition between ports, the opening of the new Bay Port will also serve as an important growth engine for the northern metropolitan area in general and the city of Haifa in particular."
