In the wake of rising case numbers due to the Delta variant, the government announced on Thursday new measures designed to limit community spread of coronavirus.

Under the plan, which would come into effect next week upon approval from a special ministerial forum tasked with the pandemic response, participation in large events would only be allowed for those who have been fully vaccinated, have recovered from COVID-19 or have tested negative shortly before the vent.
Under the proposed language of the new statute, large events are those that are in closed spaces and have more than 100 participants who are in close contact with each other. The restrictions would only apply if that event has food and beverage.
This will most likely affect virtually all large weddings in Israel, which are usually in large halls.
"We proved that with dialogue and goodwill, we can reach much better solutions than through top-down dictates," Prime Minister Bennett said. "Had we not done so, this would result in weddings being conducted clandestinely, without any supervision. Our objective is to set standards on how to hold such events during the era of pandemics, with minimal impact on the industry and maximum protection for Israelis."
