Edelstein, who is the president of the United Torah Judaism party's Council of Torah Sages, said in a statement that now that the new government was sworn in, "its intentions are clear and they say so openly, that they want to change the laws of the Torah and act in defiance of it."
What led to such a "disturbance" in the Ultra-Orthodox world? "A lack of merits," the leading sage explained and called on the Haredi community to increase its religious observance and promised that everything will be well as long as "we do that which we are supposed to – learn Torah, perform good deeds and follow the 613 commandments."
"Following these commandments increases our merits, and we will not have difficulties or disruptions and will be aided by The One Above," he concluded.
