The Health Ministry Monday announced that as of Tuesday morning it would be lifting that mandatory requirement to wear face masks indoors, essentially ending the last major coronavirus restrictions still practiced in Israel.

The rollback has three exceptions, the ministry said, noting that face masks would still be mandatory for employees or guests who have not been vaccinated, people in welfare institutions, long-term care facilities or nursing homes, individuals en route to quarantine, and those traveling by plane.
The Health Ministry cited the declining trend in morbidity and noted that if the campaign to vaccinate teens ages 12-15, which began last Sunday, succeeds, the requirement to wear face masks in schools may be lifted as well.
The ministry said it will continue to update its list of "red countries" from which travelers will be required to quarantine for 10 days upon return.
