The New York Times wrote: "[Prime Minister] Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel's longest-serving leader, is on the verge of losing power as his opponents strike a deal." It called the coalition, which is based on left-wing parties and right-wing factions and lawmakers that had parted ways with Netanyahu, "an unusual and awkward alliance."
When asked about the political shift in Israel, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said: "Well, we're not going to weigh in on an ongoing political process in a foreign country – in Israel or anywhere in the world. I think you probably know well what the president's view is on a two-state solution and how he believes it's the only path forward for lasting peace in the region."
In Europe, German news magazine Der Spiegel wrote: "Netanyahu's opponents call for a coalition of eight parties" and described Yamina leader Naftali Bennett as "an extreme rightist."
French daily Le Monde wrote: "Yair Lapid confirmed that he put together a coalition to form a government."
Similarly, Spain's El Pais reported, "A coalition of eight parties agreed to oust Netanyahu after 12 years in power."
Renowned media outlets AP and Reuters kept reporting on the political change throughout Thursday morning.
