An Israeli woman from Tiberias who was visiting family in Uruguay was murdered last month, and her daughter is the main suspect, local media reported on Tuesday.
Rebecca Hershtein, 75, was reported missing by relatives on May 22, after having arrived in Uruguay in April to visit her hometown and family.
As part of their investigation, Uruguayan police uncovered CCTV footage showing Hershtein entering her daughter's house. She never left. Hershtein's daughter was questioned in the case and eventually confessed to having a physical altercation with her mother, during which she allegedly fell, hit her head and died.
According to media report, Hershtein's daughter disposed of the remains by burning them in an outdoor bathtub.
The Foreign Ministry said, that "the Israeli Embassy in Uruguay and the Department for Israelis Abroad in the Consular Division of the Foreign Ministry are in contact with local authorities and acquaintances of Israeli citizens, and will assist in bringing her for burial in Israel, as needed."
