Firefighters in southern Israel were able to contain large wildfires triggered by a heatwave on Monday.
The temperature spike, which was felt throughout Israel, peaked on Monday afternoon.

Further east, a fire near Ramat Beit Shemesh forced the evacuation of residents and damaged two buildings. Blazes were also reported in Gedera, Haifa, and along Route 6.
The National Fire and Rescue Authority asked citizens not to add to the dangerous situation by lighting any fire in open areas.
