Civilian security guards were able to prevent a terrorist attack at the Eshkol Regional Council on Sunday, overpowering an armed Palestinian who had crossed into Israel from the southern Gaza Strip.

The man, who was armed with a knife, was tackled by a local security patrol member in Yated, about 5 kilometers (2 miles) from the Gaza border. The Israeli, who fought the armed infiltrator even though he was unarmed himself, sustained minor wounds in the scuffle
IDF troops were deployed to the area and instructed the residents of Yated and the nearby Sde Avraham to remain indoors while additional forces canvassed the area.
Israel Police and the Israel Security Agency have opened an investigation into the incident.
