After a heavy overnight IDF offensive against Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip that included massive damage to Hamas' "Metro" network of underground tunnels, a senior Egyptian official said Friday that attempts by an Egyptian delegation to broker a ceasefire had failed because Israel was rejecting all proposals for a truce.

The Egyptian source said its negotiator had suggested a temporary ceasefire that would be considered the first stage of a truce, but "that initiative had no chance."
Other reports said that options for a three-hour or a six-hour ceasefire had been floated, but Israel had not responded.
A Russian news outlet reported that the Egyptian delegation had left Tel Aviv after the talks failed.
