In a show of solidarity with the Jewish state as it fights back against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz raised the Israeli flag on the roof of Vienna's chancellery building.

In a post to Twitter, Friday, Kurz explained the move: "Today the Israeli flag was hoisted on the roof of the Federal Chancellery as a sign of solidarity with #Israel. The terrorist attacks on Israel are to be condemned in the strongest [possible terms]! Together we stand by Israel's side."
Ahead of the signing in of the Austrian government in 2020, Kurz reaffirmed his commitment to Israel and the fight against antisemitism.
In a document outlining the new Austrian government's national agenda at the time, officials wrote that "Austria has a unique historical responsibility to the State of Israel and the alliance with it. We are committed to the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state, and particularly to its security."
