Thomas R. Nides, a former senior State Department official under Hillary Clinton, is poised to become the US ambassador to Israel, the Washington Post reported on Wednesday.
Nides, a Morgan Stanley executive, "would bring both government and private-sector experience" if he is nominated and confirmed by the Senate, the report said.
The ambassadorship to Israel has been vacant since David Friedman left in January 2021. Friedman was the first US ambassador to serve at the newly dedicated embassy in Jerusalem, following President Donald Trump's historic decision to recognize the city as Israel's capital.
The 60-year-old Nides comes from a Jewish family in Minnesota. In December Jewish Insider reported that Nides was in a strong position to get the job.
