The Health Ministry on Tuesday urged the government to temporarily suspend direct flights from India as it battles a massive coronavirus resurgence.

"We need to stop the direct flights from India to Israel for at least a few weeks until the situation there stabilizes," health officials said, citing the record-breaking infection rates in India.
The ministry seeks to impose a wider travel ban as well, that would see two groups of states: "regular risk" and "high risk." Travel to the latter group would be barred, and those returning from them would have to be guaranteed, regardless of whether they have been immunized against the coronavirus.
The ministry said the restrictions would be evaluated on a biweekly basis so that they could be eased as soon as morbidity data allows.
