Lag B'Omer bonfires will be banned across the country, except for certain isolated zones where the practice is deemed safe, the Israel Fire and Rescue Authority said in a statement Thursday.
"Bonfires will not be permitted due to extreme weather conditions that raise the risk for wildfires and damage to both persons and property," the statement read.

The order will be in effect from April 27 through May 2.
Earlier in the week, however, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved unlimited access to the annual Lag B'Omer festivities on Mount Meron. Over 200,000 mostly ultra-Orthodox Israelis are expected to make the annual pilgrimage to the gravesite of the Talmudic sage Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, whose commemoration the holiday represents.
