A toddler has been hospitalized in critical condition after swallowing a battery from a toy on Tuesday. He was brought to the Assuta Medical Center in Ashdod with difficulty breathing and swallowing, where doctors determined he had swallowed a foreign object.

The battery has caused damage to the esophagus and might have even harmed his blood vessels, putting his life in danger.

He underwent emergency surgery to remove the object and was then transferred to Schneider Children's Medical Center overnight for more treatments.
"His injuries are life-threatening because the foreign object, which was removed, caused some damage as a result of electrical conductivity and its poor quality," Dr. Noa Rosenfeld from Assuta's Pediatric Institute said.
"Unfortunately, we have seen an increase in these kinds of incidents in recent years," she said.
