Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said he believes the pharmaceutical giant's coronavirus vaccine is effective for 12 months from the time of inoculation.

The comments, made on April 1 but made public, Thursday, Bourla said, "A likely scenario is that there will be likely a need for a third dose, somewhere between six and 12 months and then from there, there will be an annual revaccination, but all of that needs to be confirmed. And again, the variants will play a key role."
Speaking to CNBC's Bertha Coombs at a CVS Health event, the Pfizer CEO said people would likely need to get the vaccine annually as "it is extremely important to suppress the pool of people that can be susceptible to the virus."
He added booster shots would play an important role in the battle against more contagious coronavirus variants.
