This is the fifth edition of the AI 100 list, which CB Insights researchers compile from a pool of over 6,000 startups in the AI field. Criteria included business relations, investor profile, team strength, and the novelty of the companies' technology.
Sixty-four percent of the companies selected for this year's AI 100 are headquartered in the US. Eight of the winners are based in the UK, followed by six each in China and Israel, and five in Canada. Other countries represented in this year's list include Japan, Denmark, Czech Republic, France, Poland, Germany, and South Korea.

Two of the firms featured focus on ag-tech: Beewise and Prospera. Beewise offers apiarists remote-controlled, solar powered bee colonies, while Prospera helps famers optimize growing and farming in both greenhouse environments and fields.
