Yesh Atid leader Yair Lapid called Monday on right-wing leader and Yamina chief Naftali Bennett to work together to form a government based on a rotating premiership.
Lapid, who hopes Yamina would not join a new government led by incumbent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that it was imperative that both parties present the Israeli president with a unified front ahead of his decision to tap an MK as prime minister in the wake of the inconclusive March 23 election.
Lapid said that he offered Bennett to serve as prime minister for the first half of the premiership in order to convince him to sign off on the plan.

Yamina, which has said it would like Netanyahu to step down because of his ongoing corruption trial, has refused to rule out partnering with him.
"Anyone who has seen Netanyahu's irresponsible conduct [following his court appearance], should conclude that he can no longer serve," Lapid said in a live video message on Facebook. "Netanyahu has become dangerous, for himself, for Israel and for the rule of law. We must work to replace him with a national government of consensus," Lapid said.
Lapid was referring to Netanyahu's blistering attack on prosecutors after the hearing had concluded, in which the prime minister said they were essentially trying to use legal means to topple him, and in what he called a 'witch hunt' and an 'attempted coup.'
Lapid said that despite the ideological differences between Yesh Atid and Yamina, forming an alternative government that would end Netanyahu's term in office was possible. "This government will extend over the entire spectrum of the right-wing parties, the Left and the Center. This government will reflect the fact that we live here together, that we know how to bridge our differences and that we do not hate one another; we are determined to deliver the change we have promised Israelis and prevent a man standing on trial with racist allies from being at the helm of the government."
