Incoming lawmakers are already planning to pass legislation designed to block an indicted prime minister from assuming office, effectively disqualifying Benjamin Netanyahu from forming the next government, Israeli media reported on Wednesday.

According to reports, leading the charge are MKs from Yisrael Beytenu and Labor parties, who are attempting to muster enough votes to pass the bill to that effect in the Knesset while the transitional parliament is still in session.

The so-called anti-Netanyahu bloc of parliamentarians will first look to replace Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin, as well as a number of members on committees vital to the process before enacting the plan.

"We must replace the Knesset speaker, take control of the Knesset's Arrangements Committee, Finance Committee and Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee," an unnamed source told Channel 12 News.

Yisrael Beytenu leader Avigdor Lieberman on Wednesday held a series of talks with potential coalition partners on the Center-Left bloc.

According to Maariv, he estimated that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc will not have more than 59 mandates in the final count, even if Yamina leader Naftali Bennett goes back on his election promise and joins a Netanyahu-led government.

"The main goal now facing the 'pro-change bloc' is taking over the Knesset," the daily cited Lieberman as saying.

Lieberman further stressed in discussions the need to advance immediately legislation that will prevent an indicted individual to contend for the premiership.

Netanyahu faces a graft trial in three separate cases. He vehemently denies any wrongdoing.

Reports in the past suggested that the Israeli premier intends to pass a bill that would grant him legal immunity as an incumbent prime minister, while his political rivals have attempted to push forward a bill that would force Netanyahu's ouster due to his trial.

Lieberman, according to Maariv, argued that if such legislation would go through, it would force change in the Likud as well, solving Israel's political stasis after four years of instability.
