Israel Hayom Editor-in-Chief Boaz Bismuth took part in the special election night broadcast from the paper's studio, saying that Israelis should celebrate the chance to get to vote, despite the public being fed up with repeated early elections and political instability.
"I remember when I was a child, I would have pity for the Italians because they had so many early elections, and now some in the public are voting with their feet by not showing up at the polling stations because they are sick of the repeated votes," he said. "The public doesn't want to vote if it has no impact and if it believes MKs will not be able to forge a government," he warned.
Bismuth said that the success of the vaccination drive was a game-changer that could ultimately deliver Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu victory and secure him a stable government. "After a year of the pandemic, we see pictures from abroad and see that our situation is much better because of the vaccines, they can definitely be the deciding factor and perhaps even the trump card in this campaign."
Bismuth said that despite Blue and White leader Benny Gantz being scorned by his own base after reneging on his promise not to enter Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, voters could give him a second chance, although not enough seats to become prime minister. "I think there is another wild card – Gantz could very well become the election surprise. This time he is running without the media's backing, and maybe this means that he will surprise big time."
