In a tragic training accident on Tuesday, an Israeli combat soldier was critically wounded after being shot in the head at a base in the Jordan Valley, the IDF confirmed on Wednesday.

The Military Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to available details, the soldier, from the Nahal infantry brigade's 50th Battalion, was hit in the head with a Ruger bullet, which is mostly used for the purpose of riot dispersal, during a training session at the on-base firing range.
The soldier and his unit were preparing for operational deployment along the Gaza border.
The soldier was reportedly hit when one of his comrades unintentionally discharged his weapon during a routine safety inspection.
He was rushed to a Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem after receiving initial treatment from medics in the field.
The family of the soldier was informed of his injury, the IDF noted.
