"We acted fast, we acted right, I'm satisfied with the result," a senior defense official said Sunday about the steps that helped secure the return home of the young Israeli woman who crossed willingly into Syria last week.

The woman apparently crossed the border on January 31, was captured by local villagers and handed over to the Syrian army. Defense officials said it was very lucky that she didn't fall into the hands of one of the terrorist groups operating in the region.
She landed safely back in Israel on Friday, February 19, and was questioned by the Shin Bet security agency regarding her time in Syria.
Meanwhile, a journalist affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist group on Sunday posted photos to Twitter allegedly of the same woman, but this time near the Lebanese border.
According to Al-Manar TV, the photos were taken while the woman was in a vehicle near the Lebanese-Israeli border in October 2020.
At the time, tensions along the border were particularly high due to Israeli fears of a Hezbollah retaliation following the death of a pro-Iranian Shiite militia commander in Syria.
She was detained by IDF troops near the border, who warned her of the danger she was in and ordered her to leave the area.
The woman has described herself on social media as a pacifist who does not recognize the country's borders and rejects terms such as "enemy" and "borders."
