Tnufa chair Ofer Shelah announced Thursday that he was pulling out of the election race. A founding member of the Yesh Atid party, Shelah broke away with it shortly before the March 23 elections were called and formed his own party. Polls had consistently projected Tnufa would fail to cross the four-seat electoral threshold.

In a Facebook post, Shelah explained that the decision, which followed failed merger negotiations with the Labor party, seeks to better the chances of replacing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the upcoming elections by preventing the loss of votes to the Right.
