Canada on Wednesday designated the far-right Proud Boys movement as a terrorist group.

"The group and its members have openly encouraged, planned, and conducted violent activities against those they perceive to be opposed to their ideology and political beliefs," Public Safety Canada states in its description of the group in the list of banned entities.
The members of the male-only movement promote "misogynistic, Islamophobic, anti-Semitic, anti-immigrant, and/or white supremacist ideologies and associate with white supremacist groups," it charged.
