On Jan. 25, US President Joe Biden picked Maher Bitar to the role of senior director for intelligence programs at the National Security Council. His past as an anti-Israel activist sparked an immediate backlash.
Biden's second pick for Deputy National Security Adviser for Cybersecurity, Anne Neuberger, came under fire for alleged dual-loyalty due to her family foundation's support for AIPAC.
"We are appalled by recent spurious accusations against our staff. We welcome oversight and scrutiny, but there is no justification for false and ad hominem attacks based on ethnic, racial, or religious identity," National Security Council spokeswoman Emily Horne said in a statement.
