Former Justice Minister Avi Nissenkorn announced Sunday that he is quitting from Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai's Israelis party and retiring from politics.

"After years as a public servant, I have decided to move aside and taking time off," Nissenkorn said in a statement.
Nissenkorn, a key figure in the Blue and White party had left it to join Huldai's Knesset bid. The Israelis party started off strong but has since dipped in the polls, with some projecting it will not cross the four-seat electoral threshold.
Political insiders said his departure means the Israelis party will likely shelve its parliamentary bid. The decision on that must be made by Thursday, the deadline for all parties to present their slates to the Central Election Committee.
