Outgoing US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman ended his term on Wednesday at a ceremony at the Western Wall.

Friedman said that the Western Wall was the first place he visited upon arrival as US ambassador, and it was where he was finishing his time as the US envoy to Israel.

However, an hour before Friedman's time was up, the name of the official Twitter account of the American Embassy in Jerusalem was changed to read: "U.S. Ambassador to Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza."

However, an embassy spokesperson said that the change did not "reflect any change in policy or indication of any future changes."

The embassy said that the change was automatic upon the inauguration of a new president and administration, and the addition "West Bank and Gaza" was removed from the account's title.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas congratulated US President Joe Biden on his inauguration as president, and Vice President Kamala Harris. Abbas wished them both success in dealing with major challenges and said that the PA was "expecting to cooperate on peace and stability in the region and the world."

Abbas also stressed his willingness to undertake a "comprehensive, just peace process that will grant the Palestinian people's wishes for freedom and independence."
