Knesset Speaker Yariv Levin and Public Security Minister Amir Ohana met Wednesday with officers with the Israel Police and Knesset Guard to discuss scenarios by which a mob – inspired by the Jan. 6 riots on Capitol Hill – could breach the Knesset in the run-up to or following the March 23 elections.

According to Channel 12 News, while the police have no intelligence to suggest chaos is forthcoming, the meeting was held in accordance with security readiness for extreme-case scenarios.

Levin, Ohana and security officials agreed to hone existing procedures to ensure protocols and contingencies are in place in the events that riots could place the integrity of the parliament building in danger.
One of the main questions that must be answered is how the Knesset Guard could ward off such a breach pending the arrival of backup.
By law, the Israel Police are barred from operating on parliament ground, where the Knesset Guard has sole jurisdiction.
The panel agreed to set guidelines meant to ensure that the Knesset Guard could hold off a mob, as well as set the procedures for the arrival of additional security forces to assist it, if necessary.
