Staff at the Buchenwald Memorial in Weimar, Germany have bolstered security at the former concentration camp upon learning people have been coming there to ski.
In recent days, the site has been blanketed in heavy snow, and residents of nearby communities have come to the site of the former camp, which is situated atop a hill, to engage in winter sports activities.

The improvised ski path used by locals passes through the mass graves, where the remains of thousands of prisoners who were either murdered there or died before the camp was liberated in April 1945 are found.
In a statement, Buchenwald Memorial staff asked to honor the dead and avoid any kind of sports activities in the former concentration camp.
Around 56,000 people were murdered at the hands of the Nazis and their collaborators at Buchenwald from 1937 to 1945.
