Following the success of the Israeli TV series "Tehran," Iran has introduced its own spy series, "Safe House," which began airing in Iran in November.
The series deals with the Iranian military's complex operations against the extremist Sunni Islamic State group.

The show has been a huge success in Iran. According to the Iranian Mehr News Agency, "Safe House" is currently one of the most-watched series in the country.
Thus far, 50 episodes have aired, and the series has been renewed for another season. The show features a plot line in which an Iranian spy is sent to Israel, and its creators claim the story is based on real events.
For a touch of realism, one scene shows the Iranian spy reading Israel Hayom, Israel's largest daily newspaper.
"Safe House" director Ahmad Moazzami and producer Abolfazl Safari said that the series gained enormous popularity in Iran because it portrayed the "vicious terrorist crimes" that Israel and the United States have supposedly committed against Iran.
"It is my duty to produce a quality show and respect my country," Safari said. "Part of that is describing the hostilities that Israel and the US have committed against us, and that was reflected in the series. Several of our scientists were assassinated during the Obama administration, and more things are happening now."
"We are committed to properly portray the current atmosphere in the country and the external conditions in which it operates so that our viewers can understand it," Safari added.
"[Our goal is to] explain to the viewers that Israel and America do not negotiate with us. They are hostile and cannot be relied upon or trusted," he said.
