Former Finance Ministry Accountant-General Yaron Zelekha on Wednesday became the latest public figure enter politics ahead of the 2021 elections, announcing he has formed the "Economic party" with the aim of "saving Israel from economic destruction."

In a statement declaring the move, Zelekha, a vocal longtime critic of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's policies, said he would seek to become finance minister in the next government "to march Israel into a period of prosperity."
