A Palestinian terrorist who opened fire at a group of police officers in Jerusalem's Old City was shot and killed, Israeli police said Monday night.
According to police, the suspected terrorist approached a police post near the Lion's Gate entrance to the Old City and fired with a rudimentary submachine gun known as a "Carlo."

Officers chased the man on foot "while firing at him and [he] was neutralized," the police said in a statement.
The alleged terrorist later died of his wounds. There was no immediate comment from Palestinian officials.
A Border Police officer was injured when he fell during the chase. He was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital for treatment.
Magen David Adom said in a statement that "a 36-year-old man who was injured while running is being treated by MDA medics and paramedics and is being evacuated to Shaare Zedek Hospital, in light condition, with injuries to his back and limbs."
MDA paramedic Ilan Gur Ari said, "When we arrived at the scene, we saw a 36-year-old man fully conscious, we were told that during a run he fell and was injured. In addition, we also treated the neutralized terrorist."
In recent years, lone Palestinian attackers, usually not connected to organized terrorist groups, have been accused in a string of alleged stabbings, shootings and car rammings against Israeli security forces or Jewish civilians in Judea and Samaria.
Earlier on Monday, authorities said a 52-year-old woman, who was later identified as Esther Horgan from Tel Menashe, was found killed in northern Samaria after going for a walk in a forest near her home.
Officials said they suspected the killing was carried out by a Palestinian terrorist, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to bring the killer to justice.
