With over a thousand new verified cases daily on average, Israel has seen a clear and consistent increase in the number of daily coronavirus infections, according to a new report from the IDF's national coronavirus information center.
According to the report, even if the increase in the number of daily infections is partly due to an increase in tests administered, this would not impact the vast majority of cases identified.

There has also been an increase in the average weekly number of positive coronavirus tests. Furthermore, recent days have seen an increase in the proportion of individuals aged 60 and up who have tested positive, a development that is expected to lead to an increase in severe cases within a week.
All signs, then, point to Israel being on the verge of a third wave of coronavirus infections.
According to the report, and its findings that infections are spreading across various sectors, ages, and geographic areas, simply pausing the planned rollback in restrictions would not be enough to put a dent in the infection rate. The report's authors suggest weighing a reimposition of restrictions that have already been rolled back to thwart the increase in infection and keep the outbreak under control.
Of the 340,424 cases of the coronavirus Israel has recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic, 11,660 of them are active. There are 292 people in serious condition, 85 of whom are on ventilators. The infection rate stands at 2.3%. According to Health Ministry information published on Thursday, 2,890 people have died of the virus so far.
There are currently 1,153 communities classified as green according to the Health Ministry's traffic light system for determining public health restrictions for local authorities based on the number of new coronavirus cases and percentage of positive test results. Twenty-four are classified as "red," 32 as "orange," and 52 "yellow."
