The US Department of Justice is investigating an alleged bribery scheme for presidential pardons, according to a court document made public by the DC District Court on Tuesday.

The document details a "secret lobbying scheme" for a "pardon or reprieve of sentence" of a man or woman whose identity remains anonymous. The plot also allegedly involved "senior White House officials," although details within the 18-page document identifying individuals are blacked out.
There is no mention in the document of incumbent President Donald Trump. Despite this, speculation surrounds Trump's plans for pardons during his final weeks in office after he granted Michael Flynn's clemency last Wednesday.
Flynn, a former national security adviser to Trump, lasted just several weeks before resigning following allegations of misconduct in maintaining contacts with Russia.
Trump has pardoned or reduced the sentences of allies and supporters, including former adviser Roger Stone, conservative activist Dinesh D'Souza and Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio.
